Competitive Junior Golf
A year-round competitive development program for elite junior golfers at Mad River Golf Club. Tournament preparation, weekly competition, and a clear pathway to college golf — coached by Ryan Rinneard, PGA of Canada.
Get InvolvedThe Program
For competitive players aged 15–18 who are ready to take their game beyond lessons and into tournament golf — with the coaching, structure, and pathway to make it happen.
Get tournament-ready through regional and provincial tours. We identify the right events, handle registration logistics, and prepare players mentally and technically for competitive rounds.
The Mad River Junior Competitive Series — a season-long weekly competition right at the club. Flexible scheduling, varied formats, season-long points race, and a year-end championship.
A structured roadmap from junior golf to college recruiting. Tournament resume building, NCAA eligibility, academic planning, and guidance through every step of the scholarship process.
Tournament golf is a different game. Pre-shot routines, pressure management, post-round reflection, and the mindset work that separates practice from performance under pressure.
Tournament Opportunities
All of these tours operate within driving distance of Creemore and accept junior golfers in the 15–18 age range. We help players choose the right mix of events for their development level and goals.
The tour your players already know — running out of Shelburne Golf Club and surrounding courses including Barrie CC. A strong development circuit with events feeding into Golf Ontario provincial championships.
Run by PGA Professionals across Simcoe County courses. Ten events per season with CJGA Order of Merit points at every stop. The season championship at Brooklea CC is a direct qualifier to the CJGA Canadian Championship.
Canada's #1 junior tour — run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals. Over 100 events nationally with multiple Ontario stops. Includes a formal College Recruitment Program and has helped 50+ athletes earn scholarships.
National-level competition with events across Ontario all season. The Polair Golf Canadian Championship at Tangle Creek GC in Thornton (~35 km away) is a major qualifier accessible directly from SCJGT results.
Provincial-level competition — the highest tier in Ontario junior golf. Includes the Ontario Junior Championship, U15 & U13 Championship, Ontario Summer Games team competition, and the Next Wave high-performance development program.
The unified ranking system that aggregates results across all Ontario junior tours — SCJGT, Pepsi-Titleist, MJT, CJGA, and Golf Ontario events — into a single provincial ranking. This is the number that matters for Next Wave and Team Ontario selection.
At the Club
A season-long weekly competition designed for elite juniors who want to compete — without the pressure of a rigid schedule. Play when you can, miss when you need to. Points accumulate all season.
Every Wednesday evening, 9 holes, rotating formats. The season runs May through September (~20 weeks), culminating in the Mad River Junior Championship — 18 holes, stroke play, no mulligans.
Individual scoring — gross and net. The core format. Real scores, real pressure, official handicap rounds.
Random-draw head-to-head pairings. Different mindset, different strategy — learn to compete hole by hole.
Random 2-person teams. Builds camaraderie, takes individual pressure off, and teaches team golf.
Short game nights — up-and-down contests, closest to the pin, putting competitions. Pure scoring zone work.
The Goal
For juniors and parents who want to understand how competitive junior golf in Ontario leads to college scholarship opportunities in Canada and the United States.
Compete consistently on local and regional tours — SCJGT, Pepsi-Titleist, and MJT events. Establish a Golf Canada handicap and begin building your Junior Golf Pathway ranking. Focus on posting consistent scores rather than chasing low rounds.
Add CJGA events and Golf Ontario Championships to your schedule. Target the Next Wave high-performance program (U15/U17 selection based on Pathway rankings). Begin registering with the NCAA Eligibility Center and take the SAT/ACT.
This is when D1 programs make verbal offers and D2/NAIA coaches are actively watching. Build a golf resume (tournament results, handicap, video). Use the MJT College Recruitment Program. Begin reaching out to coaches directly — email, video, and stats.
Narrow your list, take official visits, and make your commitment. D3 and NAIA windows stay open longer — real opportunities exist beyond D1. Ensure all NCAA academic eligibility requirements are complete. Sign your letter of intent.
I've been coaching these kids for years — I know their games, their strengths, and where they need to grow. My job is to help them navigate the tournament landscape, build a competitive resume that coaches notice, and prepare them technically and mentally for the next level. I also work directly with parents to make sure the academic side stays on track. This isn't just about golf — it's about giving these young people every opportunity they've earned.
